Dagr’s Dog Diary: Paws, Poop, and Puddles

Dagr, a wet dog after his bath

Welcome to Dagr’s Dog Diary, where I share snippets from our daily adventures and funny moments.

Dear Diary,

It’s rainy and overcast outside today. Despite the weather, Dagr and I trudged outside for his mid-day walk, which included a bathroom break. Things took a bit of an unwelcome turn when he accidentally stepped in his own freshly-made pile. 💩 I got to scrape the compressed poop pancake out of the grass with my hand encased in a plastic bag. Good times.

As I hunched over, cleaning up his mess, Dagr decided to lend a paw – quite literally – by tugging at his leash and trying to grab the poop bag. This caused me to lose my balance and I accidentally, lightly, stepped on his paw, prompting a loud yelp that could be heard around the neighbourhood.

It took some time to regain Dagr’s trust afterwards. With a bag of poop in hand and a reluctant Dagr in tow, our walk to the city garbage bin was slow and ponderous. Dagr insisted on stopping to sniff every wet twig and blade of grass along the way, prolonging the time I spent holding his poop more than I would have preferred.

When we finally reached the park, Dagr wasted no time diving into a patch of cold muddy water in the field. Despite looking like a drowned rat, he seemed content exploring and leaping through his newfound playground. He flew from one patch of mud to the next like a rocket and I let him have his fun.

Back at home, I prepared a warm bath for Dagr to wash away the cold muck. To my surprise, he seemed less than thrilled. The sparkle in his eyes dulled as he reluctantly endured being fussed with.

After his bath, and a brief play session, it was time for Dagr’s mid-day nap. I hoped his stuffed Kong toy would help him settle, but he was still hyper and overstimulated. He quickly dispatched the Kong’s contents and then proceeded to shred his pee pad while whining for attention.

Final Thoughts:

As Dagr finally drifts off to sleep and I shakily reach for my chamomile tea, I can’t help but think that two hours from now, he’ll be awake and we’d be doing this all over again. Give me strength. 🙏

Until next time,

Meghan
